Backgrounds: There is an additional charge of $25.00 for simple backgrounds such as flooring/carpet, bedding, simplified foliage/grass, barn interior, etc.  Complex backgrounds are not an option, as the goal is to highlight your pet.

Multiple pets:  I can accommodate up to two pets in the same portrait for an additional charge of $25.00.  (Full body of two small pets or head and neck of two small to medium sized pets.)  Both pets must be together in the same reference photo.

Time to complete:  Portraits take about 3 – 4 weeks to complete from start to finish.  It is important to allow some flexibility in the event of an illness; however, I will make every effort to complete the project in a reasonable amount of time.  If you need the portrait on or by a certain date, please tell me in advance.  The time in which I can begin a project depends on the number of portraits I already have scheduled.  If my schedule is booked for several months ahead, I can add your name to my waiting list.

Please read the commission process below, as well as the terms and conditions prior to contacting me about your project.

STEPS for COMMISSIONING A PET PORTRAIT:

Step 1: Select the reference photo and size

It is very important to select a quality photo of your pet for the best portrait possible.  Be sure the photo is clear, details are visible and your pet is well lit.  Please do not send photos from screenshots, social media downloads, or photos taken in portrait mode.  I cannot work from photos that are blurry, grainy or dark.  Please send 4-6 additional photos to supplement the main reference photo.  I can work with you to determine which photo will work the best.

I will mount your portrait on a backing board with a white, acid neutral mat that will fit standard size frames in the following dimensions:  11x14 for an 8x10 portrait, 12x16 for a 9x12 portrait or 16x20 for an 11x14 portrait.  I do not frame the art.  If you are going to have your portrait professionally framed, variations to the sizes listed above are available upon request, but I will not provide a mat.  If you want to frame the portrait yourself in an off the rack/stock frame, take care not to smudge the artwork.

Step 2:  Contact me to begin the commission process

After you have read all the information on the website, email me at MicheleYoungArt@gmail.com or select CONTACT in the menu bar, and we can discuss the specifications of your commission.  I will provide a quote and an estimated completion date.

Step 3:  Submit the deposit

I will send you a customized invoice at which time 50% of the total cost of the portrait is due via PayPal or Venmo.  Cash is accepted if local. Deposits are non-refundable once the portrait is started, or materials are ordered.  By sending me your deposit, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to all the information on the website including the terms and conditions and your customized invoice. When I receive your deposit, I will begin the commissioned artwork.

Step 3:  Approve progress photos

I will send three progress photos of the art toward the beginning, middle and end of the project.  Up to three reasonable, minor alterations/revisions can be requested at no charge such as tweaking colors or the shape of a body part.  I will charge $25 for any additional revisions for a total of five.   Major changes cannot be accommodated once the drawing process has begun.

Step 5:  Submit remaining balance and shipping cost

I will send a second invoice for the remaining balance plus the cost of shipping when the portrait is completed.   When I receive the remaining balance, I will ship your artwork.  Currently, I do not ship internationally.  The price for shipping depends on weight and distance.  All portraits are carefully wrapped and insured.
