Colored Pencil Magazine July 2019 Entry

Hello Everyone!

Colored Pencil Magazine hosts a monthly contest where they provide a photo and invite all colored pencil artists to draw it. This is the first time I have participated, and here is my submission for the July 2019 Challenge. The winner receives a gift card for art supplies...crossing my fingers! :-)

I used Prismacolor Premier and Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I chose Bristol Smooth because I thought it would save me time filling in the tooth (peaks and valleys) of the paper and would ease some muscle strain I have recently developed. But it It is very difficult for me to blend layers of colored pencil on this paper, which became quite frustrating. In hindsight, I would have chosen paper with more texture and would have probably had better results--but every drawing is a learning experience.
